Track 02 · Read the story

Market Structure

Trends, ranges, highs and lows. The skeleton underneath every candle you look at.

Free learning note

Start with the swings, then the story.

Compare successive highs and lows. Rising swing highs and lows can describe an uptrend; falling ones can describe a downtrend. Overlapping swings may suggest a range. These descriptions depend on the timeframe and how you define a swing.

An example to think through

A fall inside a rising sequence can be a pullback. If the broader sequence changes, the original trend description may no longer fit. Neither label is certain while events unfold.

Try this on a historical chart.

Mark the most recent two swing highs and lows on a historical chart. Write what would make you reconsider your description.
