Trading Fundamentals

How markets work, what an order really is, and the vocabulary every chart assumes you know.

Free learning note

Price is a record of transactions.

A candle groups a period of price activity into its open, high, low and close. The same shape can appear on different timeframes, so begin by checking which period each candle represents.

An example to think through

An open of 100 and close of 110 make an upward candle. A high of 120 and low of 80 describe its full range. The candle alone does not reveal the next move.

Try this on a historical chart.

On a historical chart, choose three candles. Describe their bodies and wicks in plain language before trying to name a pattern.
